Post imperial costume requirements
-
Canon style helmets approved. Concept art helmets (McQuarrie, Chang, Matyas) approved. Custom helmets taken at a case-by-case basis. Custom helmets must have T-visor or similar motif. Example: horizontal, low-profile slit visor is approvable if other Mandalorian helmet features are present (recessed cheeks, ear-caps, etc.). All custom helmets must be approved by an Armorer.
Example Approved custom helmet vendors:
Alter Ego Armory
NME Props
Buck's Armory
Visors must be dark enough to shade the wearer's face. Shade 03 grinding shields are best for helmet visors. Visors may be tinted or covered with other films. Multi-chrome films will be approved at a case-by-case basis.
-
Per the concept art of Bryan Matyas for the Mandalorian, body armor has a limited base requirement for a Covert kit:
Shoulder bell (at least one)
Gauntlets
If going the extremely minimal approach, the wearer must supplement their soft parts with different textures, such as reinforced seams, pocketed flak vests, ponchos, or bandoliers.
Body armor for Covert kits may be a mix of different armor styles to evoke a scrappy, bare-bones approach. Example, mismatched shoulder plates, one knee plate, a TK shin, CT belt, etc. All will be taken at a case-by-case basis.
Body armor must be mismatched enough to evoke a Mandalorian design language. Greater than 50% continuity in non-Mandalorian armor of complete sets of body armor from other canon characters or factions with a Mandalorian helmet will not be approved.
Armor must be properly scaled to the wearer. Canon style body armor approved. Canon armor elements approved. Custom armor taken at case-by-case basis.
Body armor may be attached with Velcro, snaps, rivets, Chicago screws, or any other attachment approved by your Armorer.
-
All soft parts must adhere to having no visible zippers or velcro. Pants pockets must be obscured. Elastic bands must be either color matched or color-complimentary to the wearer's kit. Fitment is based on the comfort of the wearer. Some materials will not be approved; however, may be waived on a case by case basis for extenuating circumstances (example, texture or dye sensitivities). All soft parts must have product names or text obscured, unless added on in in-universe alphabet. Minimum requirements include:
Flight suit
Single or two-piece flight suits are approved. Flight suits must be fitted to the comfort of the wearer. If two piece, top may either be tucked into pants or untucked, but overlap must be covered by other costume asset (belt or otherwise). Two-piece flight suit must have components either the same color or complimentary.
Flak vest
Soft materials like T-shirt fabric or polyester nylon will not be approved. Leather, faux leather, canvas, duck cloth, and muslin are examples of approvable materials.
Flak vest must not have visible zippers or Velcro tabs. Lacing is permitted.
Tactical vests/plate carriers/etc. Will be heavily modified to meet the above criteria.
Utility belt
Must be made of a seemingly in-universe material such as leather or webbing.
Neck seal or balaclava
No part of the skin should be visible.
Gloves
Fingerless gloves are permitted.
No visible gap between flight suit sleeve and glove cuff (example, tuck cuff into sleeve and place gauntlet over sleeve).
Gloves with excessive metal plating will not be approved. Gloves with metal spikes or pointed protrusions will not be approved. If adding spikes or claws to gloves, please consider softer materials.
Boots
Must be closed toe, closed heel shoes.
All laces and zippers must be covered. If special accommodations are needed, approvals will be taken at case-by-case basis
Shoes
Sneakers, tennis shoes, and easily recognizable name-brand shoes (Converse, Vans, Dr. Martens) will not be approved unless:
Spats and other coverings are employed to make the shoe unrecognizable from its base.
The footwear is required by the wearer for medical, sensory, or other special accommodations such as orthopedic shoes.
Please inform your armorer of these needs, and they will work with you to ensure an in-universe look is achieved.
-
Fiberglass
Resin (cast or printed)
Metal (up to a certain guage)
EVA Foam
ABS/PVC (Sintra, Styrene)
Filament (printed) If printed filament an effort must be made to smooth out all visible print lines. If you have questions, please contact your local Armorer for best practices. Print lines in areas not visible (backsides of plates, overlapping areas, insides of helmets) do not need to be sanded. Unsanded filament will be taken at a case-by-case basis.
-
Armor must be painted to appear in-universe. Text on armor must be written in in-universe alphabets (Aurebesh, Mando'a, etc).
Armor painted to reflect sociopolitical issues will be taken at a case-by-case basis. Armor painted with reference to personal identity (such as race, sexuality, otherwise) will be taken at case-by-case basis.
Armor will not be painted to reflect political party affiliation or religious background.
Armor painted with reference to hate speech or known hate groups will not be tolerated.
